BASKETBALL: ‘I SPEND OVER 14 HOURS ON MATCH-DAY ROUTINE – ANTETOKOUNMPO

Nigerian-born Greek national basketball team power forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo, has revealed that he spends over 14 hours daily executing his game day routine.

Antetokounmpo who plays for Milwaukee Bucks of the Basketball Association (NBA) stated this while explaining how his typical match day during the season span out, saying he starts his routine at 6:30am and ends at 10:00pm.

He explains that his starts with his responsibility at the home front by taking care of his kids, doing blood flow restriction training, a nap, and preparation before the tip-off.

“My game-day starts at 06:30. You probably see me sometimes, after the games, when the game ends at 22:00. I think you’ve been in a lot of my games with the National Team and the Milwaukee Bucks,” Antetokounmpo began during an interview with Greek journalist, Harris Stavrou, reported by Basketnews.com.

“Obviously, you see me, I don’t really wanna talk to anybody. I just want to take my kids, put them in the car and take them home. The reason is because my day for that game started at 6:30 am.”

“From 6:30 to 8, I do a specific treatment that I don’t want to share with people. After that, I eat my breakfast, get in my car, and go there to warm up my body and stretch. After that, I do blood flow restriction training, which allows you to play [for] more years.

“After nap time, I get up, kiss my kids again, get in the car, and go to the game three hours before the game. Warm-up, go back, do my boots, you have seen me on the internet many times, my Normatec boots. After that, I get on the table, do some scraping so my muscles are ready to compete, go back, watch the film, meditate a little bit, stretch, foam roll, go back, tape my ankles, go 30 minutes before the game, watch clips of the other team, hype up my teammates, listen to some music, go warm up for 15 minutes.”

Antetokounmpo finished the 2023-24 campaign averaging 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game in 73 appearances for the Bucks.

Tonight (Wednesday), Antetokounmpo could make his debut in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament with Greece, which will face the Dominican Republic in the first game.
