The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), through its Community Engagement Team, visited the Oba of Ketu’s  Palace recently to raise awareness about Sexual and Gender-Based Violence  (SGBV) in the community.

In her address during the visit, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi said the Agency will not rest on it’s oars in ensuring that the survivors of the SGBV menace get Justice.

She noted that the residents in Lagos are now supporting the government in its efforts to curb the menace in society by reporting related incidences in their environment, stressing that it is an encouraging and laudable trend.

Vivour-Adeniyi, therefore, called for more collaborative efforts from the citizenry and other stakeholders, maintaining that the existence of the scourge must be of great concern to all.

On her part, Ms. Odumbo Adetoun, a  Community Officer from the Agency, delivered an in-depth discussion on SGBV, covering various scenarios and cases that constitute abuse, relevant laws and reporting procedures.

She encouraged participants not to overlook issues related to SGBV and emphasised the importance of reporting such incidents, even as mandated reporters.

While speaking, his Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Isiaka Balogun Oyero urged community members to utilise available services and expressed gratitude to the agency for bringing SGBV awareness to the community.

An intensive Q&A session followed, boosting participants’ confidence in reporting cases.

SGBV awareness materials and the toll-free line, 08000-333-333, were also distributed to participants during the programme.
