COURT STRIKES OUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASE AGAINST INFLUENCER SIR JARUS AFTER WIFE DENIES BEING BEATEN

An Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos has struck out the domestic violence case against a popular online influencer, Suraj Oyewale widely recognised as #SirJarus, on Thursday after his wife denied being beaten by him.
Recall that the Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency reported Oyewale, and was referred to be investigated by the police.
This followed a series of tweets by Oyewale where he provided clarification on an incident involving him and his wife, Mrs Oyewale Ayoola.
In the now-deleted tweets, Oyewale alleged that his wife engaged in fetish practices and provocative behaviour, which he claimed led to a physical altercation.
These tweets ignited outrage on social media, particularly on X.com, where users expressed a wide range of opinions on the matter.
After the case was investigated by the police, Sir Jarus was charged with two counts of domestic violence at the Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos.
The first count borders on “assault against his wife” while the second is for “conduct likely to cause a breach of peace”.
During a court proceeding, Magistrate Owolabi on Thursday dismissed the case against Sir Jarus after his spouse, the alleged survivor denied all allegations of domestic violence against her and requested for the case to be withdrawn against her husband.
This was confirmed by the Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, Head Public Affairs Unit Lagos DSVA in a statement issued via X on Friday.
The Lagos DSVA stated that the court asked the defendant to put down his X(Twitter) blog for one month and attend counseling sessions at the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
“The matter was adjourned to 30th of September 2024 for compliance with the agency’s report,” it stated.
Sir Jarus on Thursday reacting to the ruling appealed to married people to seek peaceful means of seeking marital disputes, adding that patience will always solve issues no matter how long it takes.
He wrote via X; “On Monday, I got a call from the Lagos State Police Command inviting me to appear before them.
“Yesterday, I reported to the office to make a statement in respect of some allegations and answer questions.
“Today, I also walked into the office and was subsequently charged to court. Fortunately, the matter was struck out by the court with conditions that I go for counseling, use my platform to speak against domestic violence and stay off Twitter for a month.”
He added, “Also in compliance, I will be logging off Twitter for one month. I will also appreciate if nobody sends me anything from Twitter on other platforms of reaching me. I do not want to see or hear anything from Twitter. Please do not send to me.
