The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has reacted to a viral video of a woman accusing the police of killing her son, Erasmus, circulating on the internet, saying that the deceased died of asphyxiation.

In the video, the mother of the deceased was devastated as she narrated her experience during the tragedy in an interview.

Adejobi in a statement on X.com disproves the claims saying that the case was handled by the force headquarters and an autopsy was carried out which revealed that the deceased died of asphyxiation, not torture.

The statement disclosed that Erasmus was a cultist who was arrested for allegedly raping and killing a young lady in the company of his friend, was never tortured by the police and the case is an old case from a year ago.

The statement reads, ā€œMy attention has been drawn to this video. The matter is an old one and it has been decided. The FCT command handled the case. The autopsy report cleared the air on this.

ā€œHe died of asphyxiation, according to the autopsy. Not torture, please. The autopsy was done in the presence of the doctor(s) of the deceased family. Itā€™s unfortunate he died because the police even needed him to unravel some issues and pending cases in the area.

“May his soul rest in peace. We implore Nigerians to always perceive and comprehend cases objectively, and to consider issues objectively before criticising the police. We didn’t kill Erasmus.
