NFF SHOULD HAVE REJECTED FINIDI’S RESIGNATION – EX-EDO DEPUTY GOV, SHAIBU
Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Phillip Shaibu, has faulted the manner NFF parted ways with Finidi George as Supér Eagles Head Coach, insisting the decision was too hasty.
Speaking after he, as guest player, captained the FCT Council of the Nigeria Union of journalists team at the ongoing NUJ Correspondents Chapel Tournament, Comrade Shaibu said a little patience and better understanding of problem of the Super Eagles could have sorted things out.
“The Super Eagles have not been impressive in recent times, we have the players but we don’t have team like England. We have to get a coach that will build a team. For me I would have left Finidi George to continue with the team, give him more time to build the team,” the former governor who also played as a registered member of Insurance FC stated.

“I had a similar problem when we decided to rebuild Bendel insurance FC. There was pressure from many to fire the coach, but I chose not to. Instead, we brought in some players and after three years, we won promotion to NPFL, went unbeaten in a season and finally won the FA Cup after 43 years”
Comrade Shaibu added: “We need patience to achieve success, you know all Nigerians are coaches. If you bring a whiteman to coach the Super Eagles, the difference is just the colour, I think we have what it takes here. That is my opinion.”
Finidi George resigned as the Super Eagles Head Coach less than two months into the job when he got wind of NFF’s plan to the hire a Technical Adviser a position that would supersede his.
