TENNIS: WINNING SECOND WIMBLEDON TITLE, MY DREAM COME TRUE – ALCARAZ
The reigning Wimbledon champion, Carlos Alcaraz has described winning the title for the second time consecutively as a dream come true.
The 21-year-old defeated Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2 7-6 (7-4) ) in the Wimbledon 2024 Men’s Singles final on Centre Court at the All England Club in London on Sunday to retain the title, endearing himself to the hearts of tennis enthusiasts.
Elated about his victory, Alcaraz recalled his early ambition to win the Wimbledon, relishing the success as a two-time winner of the title.
“It is a dream for me, winning this trophy,” ATP Tour quoted Alcaraz as saying during the trophy presentation ceremony.
“In an interview when I was 11 or 12 years old I said my dream was to win Wimbledon, so I am repaying my dream.
He added: “I want to keep going but it is a great feeling to play in this beautiful court and to lift this amazing trophy. This is the most beautiful tournament, most beautiful court and the most beautiful trophy.”
