LAGOS GOVT COOPERATIVE COLLEGE SET TO COMMENCE TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL TRAINING

The Lagos State Cooperative College will soon go into training the teeming youth populace in various technical vocational training courses which would be certified by the City and Guilds International.

The intention to commence the training programme was disclosed and authenticated with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the collaborating technical training company, Henry Karl over the weekend at the College in Agege.

Speaking at the signing of the pact with Henry Karl Technical Company, Mr. Akorede Ojomu, Provost of the College disclosed that the six-month training programme would be built around the City and Guilds curriculum which would enable trainees to sit for the bodyā€™s examinations at the end of the training and get certified in addition to receiving the College Certification.

Speaking further, Mr. Akorede Ojomu said, ā€œThe initiative of the vocational training is in further fulfilment of one of the many Collegeā€™s mandates which include meeting the specific manpower needs of the State.

He expressed optimism that the collaboration with the technical company would grow and be beneficial to both parties. While also calling on the youths to avail themselves of the noble idea by enrolling for its immense benefit.

According to him, the programme was borne out of the need to fill the demand by some organisations in the country to employ skilled workers with international certification; provide a high expertise edge with capacity of self-employment and job creation and labour mobility.

Dr. Adeleke Adedeji, the Human Resource Manager of Henry Karl, praised the efforts of the Lagos State Government in the technical and vocational training as the right step in the right direction.

He said, ā€œIt is what everybody is facing now as the future of the country depends on how much we can train our people most especially, in relevant skills that will help develop the economy.

Adedeji, who also commended the commitment and interest of the College management in seeing to the realisation of the project, expressed his organisationā€™s readiness to partner with the College on the delivery of the programme which he believed, would have a massive positive impact on the people.
