JUST IN: VIEIRA, BLUECo-OWNED STRASBOURG PART WAYS BY MUTUAL AGREEMENT

Ligue 1 side Strasbourg have parted company with manager Patrick Vieira by mutual consent.
The Ligue 1 side’s ownership group BlueCo, who also own Chelsea, announced their decision to change managers on Thursday.
Vieira, a Premier League legend as a player with Arsenal who also managed Crystal Palace, signed a three-year contract with Strasbourg last July but has now departed after his first season in charge.
Strasbourg ended the 2023-24 campaign in 13th place in the French top flight, 10 points clear of relegation but 11 adrift of the European qualification places.
A statement said: “The entire club warmly thanks Patrick Vieira for his impeccable commitment.
“Indeed, in a season of transition, Patrick was able to help young talents progress and always displayed exemplary behavior on and off the field.”
Club president Marc Keller added: “We would like to express our gratitude and thank Patrick for the work he has accomplished during this first phase of the project and we wish him much success in the future.
“He will always be welcome at the club”
The 48-year-old’s exit reportedly came after a strategic review of his first full season, a similar situation which led to Mauricio Pochettino leaving Chelsea after his first campaign.
Strasbourg say a new managerial appointment will be made “soon”.
Vieira began his managerial campaign at Manchester City’s development side before spending two years at City Group-owned Major League Soccer outfit New York City FC.
He then returned to France with Nice for two years before another two years in the Premier League with Palace, who he guided to 12th in his first season before he was sacked in March 2023.
