PARIS 2024: LAWMAKERS PLEDGE N100m TO SUPPORT TEAM NIGERIA
Nigeria’s House of Representatives has pledged to support Team Nigeria financially with the sum of N100 million for the athletes’ campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11.
The financial support was announced on Wednesday, July 17, during the plenary session with the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, who led athletes, the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), and the Paralympics Committee of Nigeria (PCN) to the House of Representatives in Abuja.
The Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu, made the announcement while delivering a speech on behalf of the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen.
He said that the money would be collectively drawn from the salaries of the members.
“I am conveying the decision of the leadership of the House to you. To kick the ball rolling, we are supporting you with a sum of N100 million,” Mr. Kalu said.
“We are using this opportunity to call on other lovers of sport to support the team because sport unites us all as a nation. We urge the private sector to support the team,” Mr. Kalu added.
