COURT REMANDS FAKE LAWYER IN CHARGE OF MURDER CASE IN ABIA
A suspected fake lawyer named Kenneth Nwuke is being held in the Umuahia Correctional Centre by order of a magistrate court in Umuahia, Abia State.
Following a tip, the police detained the suspected fake attorney when he was posing as a lawyer at the Zone 9 Police Headquarters in Umuahia, representing a client in a murder case.
It was learned that the alleged fake attorney claimed that the father of the deceased had given him a power of attorney to represent him in the murder case that was still pending at the Zone 9 Police Headquarters.
Commissioner of Police vs. Kenneth Nwuke, charge number U/449C/2024, was the Magistrate Court 4 where Nwuke was arraigned.
The police’s request for a remand order was approved by Magistrate Jane Mba; the hearing was postponed until August 30, 2024, in order to allow for a compliance report.
It was informed by police sources that the purported power of attorney is named after a well-known Aba legal practice.
It was further learned that while the fake attorney was attempting to mediate with the parties involved in the murder case, some members of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Aba, who were present at the police zonal headquarters, had informed the police about him.
Under the direction of its chairman, Charles Onuchukwu Esq., the NBA Aba branch pursued the case in court and applauded the police for apprehending the impostor attorney.
He said, “Some of our members were at the zonal police command where the man came, posing as a lawyer to represent a client in a murder case. We alerted the police that he was an impostor. He was arrested.
“Finally today being 17th July 2024, he was arraigned at the Umuahia magistrate Court 4,in charge number U/449C/2024,Commissioner of Police vs Kenneth Nwuke wherein he was remanded at Umuahia correctional centre.”
