OGUN ELECTORAL COMMISSION DEBUNKS RUMOUR OF RELEASING TIMETABLE FOR LG POLLS
The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission has distanced itself from a rumored schedule that suggested local government elections would take place in October.
This was in response to a story titled “Notice of the Year 2024 Local Government Elections in Ogun State” that was purportedly coming from it and was making the rounds on the internet.
The news report cited Babatunde Osibodu, the head of the commission, as stating that elections for the state’s 236 wards and 20 local governments will take place on October 26, 2024.
However, the state electoral commission stated that no specific date has been decided upon or set for the state’s election process.
It advised the public to ignore the material that was going around, calling it the product of false news vendors.
In addition, the statement emphasized that the state government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, is cognizant of the significance of local governments as the third tier of government and the necessity of taking the necessary steps to enthrone democratically elected representatives. The public will be duly informed whenever elections to the third tier of government are scheduled to take place.
