PARIS 2024: FALCONS MUST TAKE THEIR CHANCES AGAINST BRAZIL – DOSU
Former Nigerian international Dosu Joseph has urged the Super Falcons to take advantage of any goal-scoring chance against Brazil ahead of Thursday’s Paris Olympic Games women’s football event.
This will be the Super Falcons’ fourth appearance at the Olympics; no other African team has qualified for more than two editions of this tournament.
Speaking with newsmen, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist stated that the Super Falcons must do their best to pick a draw or defeat Brazil in their opening game.
“We thank God there was no injury in the camp. They have played Brazil before, so both teams are not just newcomers. I believe the coach knows how to play them and the ladies know how to play Brazil.
“But most importantly, in the first game of this tournament, they need to do their best to pick a draw or to win. But then, playing against Brazil won’t be an easy game, and Brazil playing against Nigeria won’t also be easy for them either.
“All I can say is that they should take their chances once they have it. We have the team, and the players are young and ready to go. We wish them the very best of luck.”
Interestingly, this will be the third encounter between these sides and their second clash at the Olympics. Brazil defeated the Super Falcons 4-3 after extra time at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. This was followed by a comfortable 3-1 victory in the group stage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
