
DOMESTIC AIRFARE RISES 14% to N89,886 IN JUNE – NBS
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), domestic airfare increased from N78,721 in May to N89,886 year-over-year (YoY) at a rate of 14%.
This was revealed by NBS today in its June 2024 transport fare watch.
NBS said: “In air travel, the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey was N89,886.84 in June 2024, showing an increase of 0.51 percent when compared to the previous month (May 2024).
“Air transportation in June 2024, the North-West recorded the highest fare with N92,262, followed by the South West with N92,135.28. while the North-Central had the least with N85,047.73.”
The bureau also noted that the for fare water journey increased significantly during the review period.

“For water transport (waterway passenger transportation), the average fare paid in June 2024 was N1,409.33 which indicates an increase of 1.69 percent when compared to the previous month (May 2024).
“On a year-on-year basis, it increased by 3.16 percent from N1,366.22 in June 2023.
However, the average transport fare paid on Okada and bus inter-city journeys declined YoY.
“The average fare paid by commuters for bus journeys within the city per drop declined by 1.28 percent from N976.08 in May 2024 to N963.58 in June 2024.
“ On a YoY basis, it decreased by 26.23 percent from N1,306.22 in June 2023.
“The average transport fare paid on Okada transportation was N477.49 in June 2024 which shows an increase of 0.84 percent when compared with the value recorded in May 2024 (N473.51).
“On a YoY basis, the fare decreased by 22.8 percent when compared with June 2023 (N618.52).”
