TEENAGER FACES PROSECUTION AFTER ALLEGED PHONE THEFT IN MOSQUE
Karim Sodiq, 19, was charged by the police on Friday in an Ona-Ara Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly snatching a cell phone inside a mosque.
Sodiq, whose address was withheld, was accused of housebreaking and stealing, but he entered a not guilty plea.
Insp. Adeshina Folaranmi, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant had committed the offenses on May 21 at approximately 7:50 p.m. at the Oju-Aba Mosque in the Moniya neighborhood of Ibadan.
According to Folaranmi, the defendant broke into the mosque with the intent of stealing an Infinix Smart 6 phone that belonged to Akorede Suliyat and was valued at N100,000.
According to him, the offenses were under Oyo State’s 2000 Criminal Laws, Sections 415 and 390(9).
The Magistrate, Mr Ayorinde Ayo-Alagbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Aug. 15 for hearing.
