GUNMEN ATTACK, ABDUCTS TRADITIONAL RULER, SIX OTHERS IN SOKOTO
Gunmen attacked and abducted the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District Isa Bawa and his biological son along Sokoto to Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.
The Sokoto Police Command Spokesperson Ahmed Rufa’i confirmed the incident to Channels Television, saying the operatives are investigating the incident.
An elder son of the victim Isa Gobir also confirmed that the district head was ambushed at the Kwanar Maharba area while travelling from Sokoto to his hometown in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.
Gobir further said the bandits on sighting the emir’s vehicle started shooting sporadically which resulted in the tires of the vehicle busting thereby causing the driver to lose control of the car forcing it it to suddenly stop.
According to him, the bandits abducted the district head and his driver who happened to be his son.
Isa therefore appealed to the government to do everything possible to ensure the release of the victims from the abductors’ den.
Sources in Sabon Birni said the incident has sparked outrage and concern among residents who are calling on authorities to take action.
They said an additional five persons had been kidnapped in the Sabon Birni area on the day the district head was attacked.
This is coming at a time when Nigerians are agitating that the security of the country should be prioritised. This is one among the many concerns which is forcing them to embark on nationwide protests.
