
JUST IN: POLICE DETONATE EXPLOSIVE DEVICE IN LAGOS
The Lagos State Police Command anti-bomb squad has deactivated an improvised explosive device in the Ikeja area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a post sighted by our correspondent on Wednesday.
He said the device, which was wrapped in a bag, was dropped by the roadside from an unregistered vehicle along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way.
The post reads, “Foiled IED attack on 31/07/24 at about 1600HRS.
A Police officer reported at EOD-CBRN base at Ikeja, that while he was on his way along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, he sighted an unregistered white Corolla car parked on the main road, close to the gate of PMF 23 Barracks, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, and that a young man alighted from the car, carefully dropped a bag by the side of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit fence, returned into the vehicle and zoomed off.
Based on the report, a team of EOD-CBRN from the base was quickly mobilized to the scene to identify the object and render same safe if confirmed to be IED on arrival. It was discovered to be IED.
Subsequently, the area was cordoned off SOP ADOPTED IED rendered safe and thereafter, taken to a safe distance for detonation accordingly.
Meanwhile, the residual of the IED collected for further analysis and investigation area is calm.”
