PROTESTERS RESTRICTED TO SPECIFIC LOCATIONS IN EDO STATE

The three senatorial districts of Edo State have designated particular areas for protesters to gather in opposition to the difficult economic climate.

The King Square in Benin City is the designated location for the nonviolent demonstration in Edo South, according to Funsho Adegboye, the Commissioner of Police for Edo State.

He also gave assurances to the public in a late-Wednesday press briefing that the police will act in a civil and professional manner, protect the nonviolent protestors, and potentially even offer water and ambulance service.

But he cautioned that protest-like gatherings at other locations would be illegal and strongly discouraged.

The commissioner also revealed that a situation room had been opened at the command headquarters for feedback and updates.

Areas outside the designated protest location on Thursday were devoid of their usual bustle. At Upper Mission Road in the state capital, which is mainly a residential area, the road was almost empty of commuters and commercial vehicles between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
