KADUNA IRS SHUTS DOWN KAEDCO OVER N600M UNPAID TAX

The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service has shut down the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company due to a tax debt of N600 million.

The Executive Chairman of KADIRS, Jerry Adams, told reporters on Friday morning that the action was based on a court order to address KAEDCO’s outstanding debt to the state. Adams noted that the tax liability, covering the period from 2015 to 2022, was established after thorough reconciliations, with KAEDCO agreeing to pay a significant portion.

However, he expressed frustration that since the liability was confirmed last year, KAEDCO has failed to fulfill its payment commitment.

“We are backed by the law to seal and take over their premises in order to ensure compliance, and that is what we executed this morning, “he said.

Adams called on other businesses, individuals, corporate organisations and the public to always ensure voluntary compliance in tax payments.
