NATIONWIDE PROTEST: POLICE BARRICADE KADUNA GOVT HOUSE ROAD OVER VIOLENT PROTEST
The Kaduna State Police Command has blocked the road to the Government House in the state capital following violent incidents during the #EndBadGovernance protests on Thursday.
These events included an attempted attack on the Government House by hoodlums.
On Friday, a combined team of security personnel, including police, civil defense, and state vigilance service members, were seen enforcing strict surveillance along the road leading to the seat of power.
This blockade aims to prevent hoodlums from accessing the area and nearby communities.
The police have urged parents and guardians to prevent their children from participating in activities that disturb public peace during the protests, emphasizing the need for serious attention to such behaviors.
In a statement released by the state police spokesman, Mansir Hassan, the Command advised groups intending to protest, to liaise with the Commissioner of Police to order to fashion out modalities for a peaceful protest.
“The somewhat peaceful protest has been hijacked by hoodlums who took undue advantage of the so-called faceless sponsors and unleashed their planned mayhem on the state,” he said.
“Consequently, the unruly miscreants attempted to gain access into the Kaduna State Government House before they were resisted by the security personnel at the said location, injured two policemen, broke the glasses of Police armoured personnel carrier stationed at the entrance of the Government House.
“They subsequently, attacked the office and staff of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) and torched the former along with adjoining other State Government offices.
“Twenty-five numbers of these hoodlums were arrested with exhibits indicating their violent tendencies. These exhibits included scissors, a jackknife and even live 7.62 X 39mm ammunition recovered from one Hassan Ibrahim of Rigasa area Kaduna. Similarly, one suspect was arrested dressed in a police camouflage uniform for deception.”
