The Sokoto State Police Command has detained 81 people they believe to be thugs in relation to the violence and vandalism that transpired during the state’s countrywide demonstration against hunger.
In a statement, Ahmed Rufai, a spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, stated that the criminals were apprehended when they were attacking defenseless bystanders and damaging government property in the city.
He stated that the prompt action of law enforcement and other security organizations prevented the city’s rioting and looting from spreading further.
Despite acknowledging residents’ rights to demonstrate, he stated that the command will not tolerate lawlessness.
