TURKEY DETAINS 99 SUSPECTED ISLAMIC STATE MEMBERS
Turkey’s Interior Minister announced on Friday that 99 individuals suspected of being members of the Islamic State jihadist group were detained in recent raids nationwide.
The arrests took place primarily in Ankara and Izmir in the west, along with locations in the central, eastern, and southern regions of the country, according to a post by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on X.
“99 suspects have been arrested in the GURZ-4 operations over the past three days,” Yerlikaya said.
“We will not tolerate any terrorists,” he added.
Turkish authorities have frequently conducted large-scale arrests of suspected IS members, with the latest operation in March resulting in 147 detentions.
Yerlikaya reported that police had arrested a total of 2,919 individuals with alleged connections to the jihadist organization.
Local authorities revealed that two of the attackers who killed 145 people at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall in March had spent several weeks in Turkey before traveling to Russia.
IS claimed responsibility for the attack.
