SEVERE FLOOD RENDER RESIDENTS HOMELESS IN ARGUNGU, KEBBI STATE
A severe flood has ravaged the Argungu Emirate in Kebbi State, destroying over 200 houses and displacing numerous residents.
The disaster occurred following heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday morning, affecting villages in Bayawa, Tiggi, Fakon Sarki Settlement, and Karda Area in Argungu town.
The flood has rendered many homeless, with some seeking temporary shelter in schools. The people of Bayawa village are currently housed at Bayawa Secondary School, while those from Fakon Sarki have been relocated to Magajin Rafi Model Primary School in the new barracks area of Argungu town.
Residents of Tiggi village have also returned to the local secondary school for shelter.
Kebbi State’s Deputy Governor, Umar Tafida, visited the affected areas to assess the damage and offer support.
He directed an immediate assessment of the affected houses and instructed the compilation of a list of victims and their lost properties.
The deputy governor also ordered the evacuation of people to nearby schools for their safety and the provision of emergency assistance.
He also provided N5m to each affected village – Bayawa, Tiggi, and Fakon Sarki – as initial support. He also donated one million naira for the purchase of food and drinks for the displaced residents.
Additionally, he assured the victims that he would forward a report of the incident to the state governor, Nasir Idris, to secure further assistance from the state and federal governments.
