PARIS 2024: D’TIGRESS MOVE UP TO 8TH IN LATEST FIBA RANKING
Nigeria’s D’Tigress moved up to 8th position from 12th, in the latest FIBA power ranking following their outstanding performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Prior to the commencement of the Paris Olympics games, D’Tigress were the lowest ranked team among the 12 participating countries.
However, the impressive performance of the Rena Wakama-led team in the group stage saw them climb in the ranking.
Following the conclusion of the group-stage matches, D’Tigress finished in third position after securing wins Australia and Canada and a loss to France in Group B.
D’Tigress’ road to the quarter-final began with a 75-62, in their Group B opener on Monday, July 29. It was D’Tigress’ first win at the Olympics since Athens 2004.
The team lost to France 75-54 in its second group-stage match, but bounced back to secure a crucial victory over Canada recording a 79-70, in their third Group B match on Sunday.
D’Tigress will now face defending champion USA, who retained first position in the ranking, in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, August 7,
