JUST IN: ECOWAS DEFENCE CHIEFS SEEK RETURN OF MALI, NIGER, BURKINA FASO
The Economic Community of West African States’ Chiefs of Defense Staff demanded on Friday that Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso be let back into the regional alliance.
Speaking in Abuja during a visit to the National Counter Terrorism Center, General Christopher Musa, the Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defense Staff and the Chief of Defense Staff of Nigeria, stated that their return is imperative to combat the growing insurgency and other forms of insecurity wreaking havoc on the region.
Reiterating the need for all hands to be on deck to reduce insecurity in West Africa, General Musa revealed that efforts are being made by the Ecowas Chiefs of Defense Staff to ensure the return of the three countries.
Major General Adamu Laka, the National Coordinator of the Counterterrorism Center, emphasized the importance of collaboration among West African nations in combating terrorism during his address to the Ecowas Chiefs of Defense Staff.
General Laka continued by saying that one strategy for fighting terrorism in the area is for nations in the area to exchange experiences.
