The police have arraigned six individuals in Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, for allegedly conspiring with others at large to hurt, intimidate, and steal cash and a phone worth N1.2 million.

On Monday, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, 26, Abel Odiete, 28, Chinedu Ihechi, 27, Divine Eta, 27, Boniface Isiah, 32, and Titilayo Campos appeared in court on charges of conspiracy, crime to wit severe hurt, kidnapping, unlawful deprivation, and stealing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendants committed the offence at about 10.a.m at a hotel in Parafa area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

Famuyiwa said that the defendant conspired to intimidate with intent to unlawfully confine and detain one Kapo Muniru and Oyedeji Samuel, who were the complainants at the hotel.

She said that they unlawfully deprived the complainants of their personal liberty and forcefully collected their phones with intimidation.

The prosecutor added that they stole a phone value N160,000 and allegedly fraudulently withdraw N1 million from one Kapo Muniru’s bank account.

“The complainant were rescued by community members, who advised them to report the case to the police,” she said.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 411, 245, 271(3), 274, 287 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr A.O. Ogbe, granted the defendants bail in the amount of N2 million each, with two sureties in the same sum.

Ogbe noted that one of the sureties must be a landlord with a landed property and three years of tax payment history, while the second must likewise own a corporation in Lagos State.
