PETROL COSTS N950 PER LITRE IN KANO, COMMERCIAL TRICYCLE OPERATORS INCREASE PRICES
Kano State fuel merchants have increased their prices, with a litre now costing between N900 and N950.
Following the rise, commercial tricycle operators in metropolitan local government regions have increased their fares by almost 100%.
This comes just a few days after the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria# countrywide demonstration.
Most filling stations in Kano City have also remained closed, with the handful that are still selling the product being besieged by a huge wait of vehicles.
The few filling stations that were open had already raised their prices from between N780 and N850 per litre before the anti-hunger rally, to between N900 and N950 per litre.
Black marketers who have just returned to business are likewise having a field day.
According to investigations, a litre of fuel on the illicit market costs between N1,100 and N1,200, depending on where the black marketers operate.
A cross-section of motorists who spoke with our reporter voiced anxiety about the price increase.
Attempts to contact the state Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Gana Girge, were unsuccessful since his calls did not connect.
