Newly promoted club Ipswich are set to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja on a season-long loan in a deal that could become permanent.

Ipswich have included a clause that would see them sign Broja on a permanent basis for £30m should they avoid relegation.

A transfer would also be contigent on Ipswich agreeing a contract with Broja at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old Albania international was initially reluctant to move to Portman Road but was convinced on Tuesday to make the switch, which is expected to go through on Wednesday, pending the completion of a medical.

Ipswich have used the windfall from promotion to upgrade Kieran McKenna’s squad, adding Omari Hutchinson on a permanent basis from Chelsea, along with Ben Johnson, Liam Delap, Arijanet Muric, Sammie Szmodics, Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste.

Broja took part in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States but begun training with Chelsea’s ‘loan group’ when he returned to London after being deemed surplus to requirements.

The homegrown star has struggled to earn game time at Stamford Bridge since an anterior cruciate ligament injury in December 2022 and also had a disappointing spell on loan at Fulham last season.
