The GTI/TNFF group has tasked journalists and media professionals with the crucial role of driving the success of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

During a virtual meeting on Friday, August 23, 2024, titled “The Role of the Media in Promoting NPFL,” Andrew Ekejiuba, GTI’s Head of Media and Publicity, emphasized the essential role the media and digitalization must play in advancing the NPFL’s brand.

Ekejiuba stressed the importance of the media in fostering fan engagement and building loyalty among NPFL club supporters. “The media must lead the charge in energizing the ‘cult’ followership of clubs by fans,” he said, noting that positive reporting is key to boosting the league’s popularity and value.

The discussion also focused on the need for club media officers to ensure that clubs have functional websites to communicate their activities and maintain a professional online presence. “Websites are catalysts for revenue generation and vital for engaging fans,” Ekejiuba emphasized.

He also highlighted the impact of digitalization, pointing out that it has significantly increased the NPFL’s exposure and enabled real-time fan engagement. Tools like targeted marketing and data-driven advertising are now essential for enhancing fan interaction and sponsorship effectiveness.

As the 2024/2025 season approaches, Ekejiuba urged media outlets and club media officers to fully embrace digital tools and social media. “Collaboration at both local and international levels is crucial to enhancing the NPFL’s image,” he added.

The session concluded with a call for collective effort in building a strong and vibrant NPFL, with Ekejiuba stating, “The NPFL is a national asset, and we all have a role in making it one of Africa’s top leagues.”

The meeting drew wide participation from media professionals, reflecting the commitment to supporting the NPFL’s growth through strategic communication and digital engagement.
