
DSS ARRESTS EX-BBC EDITOR, ADEJUWON SOYINKA AT LAGOS AIRPORT
Adejuwon Soyinka, Regional Editor for West Africa at The Conversation Africa and the founding Editor of BBC Pidgin Service, was reportedly arrested by officers of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Lagos.
Soyinka was reportedly detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, shortly after arriving in Nigeria on a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.
Attempts to contact Soyinka have been unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his phone have gone unanswered.
A report shared with journalists by a close friend of Soyinka (who requested anonymity) stated, “Adejuwon Soyinka was detained by officers of the Department of State Security at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The incident occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, shortly after he arrived in Nigeria via a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.
“As of the time of this report, no reason has been provided by the security agency for his detention. Soyinka remains unreachable, with all attempts to contact him proving unsuccessful.”
