JUST IN: APPEAL COURT OVERTURNS JUDGEMENT ORDERING PARTICIPATION OF 381 AD-HOC DELEGATES IN EDO PDP PRIMARY POLL

Read Time:39 Second

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has rejected a Federal High Court decision ordering the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to allow 381 ad hoc delegates to participate in Edo State’s primary election on February 22.

The primary election resulted in Asue Ighodalo being named the party’s candidate for the state governorship on September 21, 2024.

A three-man panel of the appellate court overturned Justice Inyang Ekwo’s decision on July 4, 2024, on the grounds that the trial court lacked jurisdiction to hear the aggrieved delegates’ suit in the first place, as they lacked the necessary legal rights to initiate the suit.

The court ruled unanimously that it cannot interfere with the PDP’s selection of a candidate for the Edo State governorship election on September 21.
