CRIME: POLICE FOIL ARMED ROBBERY, ARREST CAR THIEVES IN KADUNA

The Kaduna State Police Command has foiled an armed robbery attempt, arrested two suspected car thieves and intercepted 15 Army camouflage materials.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, on Tuesday, the first operation occurred on August 25, 2024, when officers stopped a vehicle on the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Highway and found 15 pieces of unsown military camouflage material.

Hassan said the suspect admitted delivering the materials to bandits in Niger State.

The police spokesman, quoting the state Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, commended the officers for their work and assured the public that the command would continue to ensure criminals have no breathing space within the state.

The statement read in part, “On August 25, 2024, around 1.20 pm, during a routine patrol and stop-and-search operation on the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Highway, police officers stopped a vehicle and found a black leather bag containing 15 pieces of unsown military camouflage material.

“The suspect admitted that he was to deliver the materials to someone in Udawa Village, who would then give them to armed bandits in the Chukuba area under Shiroro LGA of Niger State, for their operations. The suspect is currently cooperating with the police to arrest other accomplices.

“On August 27, 2024, while on routine divisional patrol at about 1200 hrs, the police patrol team of Makarfi encountered a group of armed robbers who had blocked the road using logs of wood and stones. Upon arrival at the scene, a shootout ensued between the police and the armed robbers. The superior firepower of the police patrol team forced the robbers to flee into the surrounding bushes.”

The statement added that one of the armed robbers was “neutralised, and his locally-made pistol and one cartridge were recovered. The police are combing the surrounding bushes in an ongoing operation to apprehend the remaining suspects.
