A manhunt has been initiated by the Nigeria Police Force’s Rivers State command to apprehend the abductors of Aribibia Fubara, a director in the State Board of Internal Revenue Service.

The gunmen were said to have kidnapped Fubara on Monday night when they arrived in Port Harcourt, the state capital, via a speedboat that crossed the Okirika Waterfront and headed toward the Marine Base axis.

While confirming the incident to newsmen, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, announced that the Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, had directed tactical units in the command to ensure that the victim was released unhurt, adding that a manhunt had been launched to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.

“Yes, the command is aware of the incident. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of all tactical units and alerted all area commanders to ensure he is rescued unhurt,” the PPRO stated.

A witness around the scene of the abduction told our reporter that attackers numbering 6 swooped suddenly into the area and shot indiscriminately into the air, forcing people to scamper for safety.

He said that as soon as they identified the victim, the unknown gunmen quickly forced him into their boat and zoomed off.

The abductors had yet to make any contact with the family of their captive as of the time of filing this report.
