LASG FLAGS-OFF CONSTRUCTION OF 950-METRE ROAD IN IBEJU LEKKI

… Assures Community of More Grassroots-Based Projects

 

In the bid to continue to bring infrastructural development to the grassroots and to fulfil the mandate of Making Lagos State a 21st Century Economy, the Lagos State Government has flagged off the construction of a 950-metre road in Onishan Street, Ibeju-Lekki.

The project which is intended to improve road networks in the community and help reduce vehicular and human travel time, was flagged off by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje recently.

In his address at the flag-off ceremony, the Special Adviser, Dr, Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje disclosed that since the inception of the administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, there has been deliberate investment in social infrastructure, especially in the communities, which is borne out of the desire to ensure even development across the State.

Dr. Nurudeen affirmed that the flag-off of the road is a testament and a pointer to the resolve Mr. Governor has for social, economic and infrastructural development in the State.

“In recent times, upon the approval and directive of Mr. Governor, the Office of Rural Development had flagged off community-based road constructions in Ikorodu and Badagry. Today, we are flagging off another one here in Ibeju-Lekki; and most assuredly, other rural road projects will commence across rural communities in the State. This is majorly to give Lagos State a better outlook and to also make life easy for residents of these communities as they commute daily”, he said.

He added that the construction of the 950-metre road, in Onishon, Ibeju-Lekki, is more than just a transportation artery; it is a lifeline that would connect communities in the axis and facilitate ease of doing business, thereby enhancing the quality of lives of residents in the community.

A Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Mojeed Fatai Adebola (representing Ibeju-Lekki Constituency 1), applauded the efforts of Mr. Governor for expediting the approval process of the road project for the benefit of the residents of Onishon Community, adding that it was the commitment of the Office of Rural Development to keep correspondence with the Governor on the road project that culminated into the flag-off witnessed.

He, however, urged residents and stakeholders of the community to rally around the contractor, Phos Engineering Nigeria Limited, who has been mobilised to commence construction to ensure seamless work during the 12 months earmarked for the delivery of the road project.

Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa also commended the Governor and the Office of Rural Development for bringing the dividend of democracy to Ibeju-Lekki through road construction. He assured that residents of the community will work collaboratively with the contractor to ensure the safety of the workforce and their properties in the course of the construction.

Similarly, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Babatunde Durojaiye lauded Mr. Governor for his consistent investment in the infrastructural development of rural communities. He also assured members of the community that the State Government is committed to bringing more infrastructural development to the Community, urging them to ensure that they take ownership of the project and safeguard the infrastructure provided for them by the State Government.

Speaking on the scope of the project and the duration for the completion of the project, Mr. Badru Babatunde Adeniran, representative of Phos Engineering Nigeria Limited assured that the 950-metre road project would have a 7.3 width to ensure ease of vehicles into major roads, with drainages and walk-ways, alongside solar-powered street lights.

Also present at the flag-off ceremony were royal fathers including Oba Waliu Olasunkanmi Rasaq, the Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki; Oba Hakeem Olusegun Ojomu; the Ojomu of Lakowe Kingdom, Community Leaders, Religious Leaders and stakeholders in the community.
