TENSION AS BANDIT LEADER IMPOSES N30 MILLION LEVY ON ZAMFARA COMMUNITY
The residents of Moriki town in the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State are in terror after the time provided by notorious bandit boss Bello Turji to pay an enforced N30 million charge expired today.
In a viral video, the bandit kingpin levied a N30 million fee on the town after the military killed over 100 of his cows a few weeks earlier.
The bandit boss initially demanded N50 million but eventually dropped it to N30 million.
An indigene of the town, Abdullahi Moriki, said that the community has been sourcing the money to pay the robbers’ commander.
According to him, each house owner in the town are tasked to pay N10,000 each while unmarried individuals are to pay N2,000 each.
“The situation is really worrisome, the bandits kingpin initially demanded for N50m but after several pleas he cut it to N30m. Right now, each house owner in Moriki are asked to pay N10,000.”

“I have house in Moriki, they have asked me to pay the N10,000.” The source added.
When questioned if the security agencies are aware of the tax and the threat of violence if payment is not made, Moriki responded that they are aware of the entire scenario.
The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dalijan, confirmed the development to newsmen over the phone, saying the security services are aware of the situation.
He added that the joint security forces comprising of the Nigerian Police and the Army have deployed additional troops to the area to provide adequate security.
“We are aware that they (bandits) have imposed levy on them, we have made adequate joint deployment by the police and the military to the whole environment, and we are in touch with the people of Moriki.”
“We have adopted a the necessary measures for us to protect the people of Moriki.”
