WSO/SGI HOLDS 7TH INDUCTION OF THE SafERR AMBASSADOR INVESTITURE

The World Safety Organisation(WSO), on Thursday, proudly held its 7th year anniversary of Safety and Emergency Response Ready (SafERR) ambassador investiture in grand style, as over a hundred members were inducted into the SafEER Global Institute.

The momentous event themed: Innovations in Public Safety, Emergency Management and Environmental Sustainability brought together dignitaries and accomplished Safety professionals from across the country.

The WSO is an international body that encourages safety in all spheres of life. It has presence with over 100 countries across the world.

The Director WSO Nigeria, Dr. Soji Olalokun, while giving his opening remarks, at the 2024 international conference and awards on health, safety, security and environment, thanked everyone for coming particularly the Governor General for his commitment in making the world a better and safer environment.

He urged all ambassadors to act as mentors to others, the society and also, an inspiration to the Public Health Safety and Environmental Sustainability in Nigeria, across Africa and the World at large.

He reminded them that the aim of the movement, is to have a society filled with sustainability and also to have a world where one in every three human being will be able to have basic knowledge of safety and emergency response in moving humanity forward.

Olalokun, encouraged the new inductees to see the event as an opportunity to connect with like minded individuals, build meaningful relationships, explore collaborative ideas and opportunities.

“Through this interaction, together we can make a substantial difference in creating a safer and more secured society.”

SafERR ambassador and WSO National office of Nigeria has taken a mantle of safeguarding lives, preserving the Environment and ensuring the wellbeing of our community. Let us continue to see this opportunity to be for a safer and brighter future.”

He commended the Governor General, Planning committee, Red Cross, NYSC, sponsors, partners amongst others for their support in making sure the campaign reaches the target audience.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations, Hon. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, who was also inducted as a SafERR ambassador while speaking at the two-day event , pledged to ensure that the recognition he got will not only be for decoration but will be for used judiciously.

Gumi commended the organization for what they are doing while emphazing that public safety cannot be compromised because it is everyone’s responsibility and not just the government.

“This organization is designed to save lives and anything that we do as a committee and safety standard aviation to encourage such organisation will be harnessed.”

” Safety is everybody’s business and any organisation that encourages that should be encouraged to do more. Our policy and what we observe is a huge gap in the safety environment.

“What we have decided to do is to propose a bill to establish the National safety regulations board so that organization like this will have someone that will be speaking on their behalf at the National level.”

“Hopefully, before the end of this term, it will come to light and will be signed by the president,” he said.

The Governor-General SGI, Rev. Dr. Wilson Arikpo, in his speech reminded everyone about what they stand to gain as a SafEER ambassador while extending invitation to more participants.

He said, “Every year, we do this to celebrate safety, health, environment and sustainability. This is a reminder of what we stand to gain as SafEER ambassadors.

“We want everyone to be advocates of safety by practicing it at all times. This program is about promoting safety and public health which trains you to be safety conscious and emergency ready at all times.”

In his remarks, the director-general of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier-General Yusha’u D Ahmed, ably represented by the Lagos State NYSC state coordinator, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, said that NYSC will continue to partner with the SafERR initiative to create awareness in the local communities while ensuring individual are conscious of their safety.

“Our main target in the NYSC is to ensure sensitization and take the messages of safety to the community where we find ourselves.”

It is a good idea that we partnered with SafERR, because the corp members easily take messages to the local communities to be aware of safety and then, to be conscious of things.”

Baderinwa who was also inducted as a safERR ambassador thanked the organizers for always involving the corp members in the project while assuring that NYSC will continue to give their support by making their members spread the good news about safety.

Meanwhile, Mabel Abel Onaiwu, a first timer and bronze Ambassador of the SafEER network revealed that, “This is a stepping stone and new direction for me because, the world of health and safety is vast and it is something that i’m passionate about.

“So, being an ambassador is a dream come through which will enable me to showcase and mentor the younger ones in the right direction.”

However, Wada Raman, a student of Agidingbi Grammar School and participant at the event mentioned that he learnt a lot particularly about fire safety and first aid, while promising to be advocate of safety at all times.

Another student, Anuoluwapo Faderin, explained that she learnt how to deal with emergency cases by performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

She also thanked the organizers for putting together such an impactful event.
