DANGOTE REFINERY: LAGOS GOVT BEGINS E-CALL UP ON LEKKI-EPE AXIS SEPT. 23
The Lagos State Government has announced plan to commence an e-call up system for managing truck movements within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor starting September 23, 2024.
According to the state government, the measure aims to prevent congestion and improve logistics operations in anticipation of increased truck traffic due to the Dangote refinery’s full operations.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the system will synchronize truck movements accessing the Lekki Deep Seaport and other industries within the corridor. He highlighted plans for road network expansion and inter-modal transport systems to streamline vehicular traffic.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, emphasized the importance of compliance with the new system. An interim arrangement has been put in place to decongest roads by evacuating illegal tankers from the red zone.
The e-call up system is designed to regulate truck entry and exit in the Lekki-Epe area by scheduling and coordinating their movements. This will prevent chaotic traffic situations caused by indiscriminate parking and movement of trucks.
The Lekki-Epe corridor is a key economic hub, home to numerous industries, including the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Dangote Refinery, and Lekki Deep Sea Port. Efficient movement of goods and services in this area is crucial for the state’s economy, making the e-call up system an essential tool for sustainable development.”
