In the state’s Egor region, agents of the Edo Police Command have neutralized a possible kidnapper and freed his victim.

This was revealed on Tuesday in Benin by SP Moses Yamu, the command’s public relations officer.

Yamu clarified that Iyobo Ighodaro, the victim, was kidnapped when the suspect ambushed him at gunpoint while he was driving a silver Mercedes-Benz C350.

According to him, on September 15, one Valentine Igbinevbo reported the incidence to the Ugbowo Police Station.

Yamu continued, saying that CSP John Emmanuel, the Divisional Police Officer, quickly organized and oversaw a surveillance squad to find the suspects’ hiding place in Egor, a town outside of Benin.

The victim’s phone was allegedly being used by the accused to negotiate a ransom at the hideout.

“Upon sighting the police, a gun battle ensued, and one male suspect, whose identity is yet unknown, sustained fatal gunshot injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead.

“The victim was rescued unhurt, received medical attention, and was reunited with his loved ones. The suspect’s body has been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital,” he said.

Nemi Iwo, the state’s commissioner of police, was praised by the police spokesperson for his and the DPO’s efforts to fight crime.

The commissioner also issued a warning to all state criminal elements, warning them that if they carried on with their illegal actions, their days would be limited.
