According to Lebanon’s health minister, bursting portable pagers caused at least eight fatalities and around 2,800 injuries throughout the nation.

More than 150 hospitals are treating the wounded, most of whom have injuries to their faces, hands, and stomachs, according to Firass Abiad, who stated that over 200 individuals are in serious condition following the Tuesday explosion of the communication devices, as reported by Aljazeera.

Hezbollah, an organization supported by Iran that has been exchanging cross-border gunfire with Israel on an almost daily basis for almost a year, released a statement in which it accused Israel of being behind the recent spate of pager blasts and declared that it will receive “its fair punishment.”
Regarding the explosions, the Israeli military remained silent.

Hezbollah said in an earlier statement on Tuesday that two of its fighters and a girl were killed as “pagers belonging to employees of various Hezbollah units and institutions exploded”.

Speaking under anonymity, a Hezbollah official said that the pager explosion was the organization’s “biggest security breach” since Israel’s war on Gaza started on October 7 in response to Hamas-led attacks on Israel.
According to Iran’s Mehr news agency, Mojtaba Amani, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, was one of the people hurt in Tuesday’s pager blasts.

Aljazeera reports that there was a “major development” in the hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese militia backed by Iran when the devices were hacked and detonated in a coordinated attack.

“This is a major security breach. Hezbollah’s communication devices have been compromised. We have seen pictures from across Lebanon of men lying on the floor wounded, bleeding. We have seen reports of hospitals asking for blood,” she said.

There was widespread panic, she added, when “near-simultaneous explosions” were reported in the east, south, and south-east districts of Beirut.
