BORNO GOVT GIVES UPDATE ON DONATIONS FOR VICTIMS OF RECENT FLOOD IN MAIDUGURI
The Borno State government has given an update on the pledges and actual donations from corporate entities, state governments, state and national assembly members, individuals, and non-governmental organisations for the victims of the recent flood in Maiduguri.
Flood waters have displaced more than one million people in and around Maiduguri, which serves as the hub for the responses to the humanitarian crisis in the northeast, in one of the worst ever floods in Africa’s most populous country.
Thousands of homes were engulfed by rapidly rising waters after a dam burst following a weekend of torrential rain in northeastern Nigeria.
In the update contained in a statement by the media aide of Governor Babagana Zulum, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, on Wednesday, the state government noted that not all amounts listed were credited to the Maiduguri Relief Fund for the Borno State Government.
Similarly, it said that details of the redeemed pledges of donations and material support will be announced in due course, noting that updates are given at the close of every day at 7:00 pm.
