The Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, has denied claims of announcing the results of Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

On Saturday, that voters across the 18 local government areas of Edo State came out in masses to elect a new governor to succeed Godwin Obaseki.

Refuting the claims in a press conference on Sunday, Fintiri, who is the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council for the election, clarified that he only shared the exact figures reported by the PDP’s collation agent.

Fintiri went further to accuse the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of disrupting the collation process, which he said was in violation of the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The Adamawa governor added that it is INEC, not him, that should be accused of violating the Electoral Act.

His words, “I’m quite aware of the Electoral Act provisions. I did not announce results, I only informed the public on the exact figure from our collation agent that was ongoing before INEC disrupted the process… INEC should be accused of violating the Elctoral Act, not me.”
