LAGOS GOVT TARGETS 5,000 BENEFICIARIES FOR FG LIVELIHOOD SUPPORT PROGRAMME DL 1.3
With the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), the Lagos State Government hopes to help more than 5,000 residents who are at risk of poverty throughout the state.
Under the topic “Training for Livelihood Support Programme,” the empowerment is being conducted under the Federal Government’s Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus in collaboration with Lagos Cares DL 1.3.
The goal of this project is to help those in need financially, especially women and young people who own small companies around the Federation.
The declaration was made during a two-day training session that was recently held in Lagos by Mrs. Toyin Salami, Head of Disbursement Link Indicator (DL.1.3) at WAPA. She pointed out that the program’s goal was to support people who were struggling financially by giving them money to expand their business ventures and soft training.
Beneficiaries are chosen based on the state’s social register, which comprises around 25,000 vulnerable citizens, according to Salami. Those who are already in business are given priority.
“The beneficiaries will receive training to further develop their businesses, and a one-time grant will be disbursed directly into their bank accounts to support growth”, Salami explained.
In addition, she mentioned that the program’s target of 5,000 beneficiaries has already been attained after reaching over 2,500 people in its first two phases. On Thursday, more than 1,200 people got training, and there are plans to expand into more towns.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo, for her part, urged the recipients to treat the training seriously, emphasizing that it would equip business owners with skills in bookkeeping, financial literacy, and other entrepreneurship areas to help them manage their resources more effectively and raise their standard of living.

The training, which is a component of the broader “Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NCARES DL.1.3)” project, was concurrently held in Epe, Agege, Isheri, and Coker Aguda. It was also noted by Kalesanwo that it is in line with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Developmental Agenda.
“This initiative which was launched by the Federal Government to train individuals on entrepreneurship skills following the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic aligns with the Lagos State’s broader efforts to provide economic resilience and empower vulnerable residents amid ongoing economic challenges”, she emphasised.
Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area facilitator Mrs. Saudat Salami emphasized the significance of entrepreneurship skills for small business success. She made the point that a lot of entrepreneurs fail not because they are not skilled enough, but rather because they are ignorant of how to run a company efficiently.
“Running a business requires more than just skills; it requires proper understanding of operations,” she said.
She consequently advised the students to register their companies, get experience with bookkeeping, market their enterprises on social media, and look for partnerships and associations that might lead to new chances.
Mrs. Arike Adeyemi, a caterer, who was one of the participants, mentioned that she gained knowledge from the training on how to use social media to promote her business and the significance of keeping track of costs like shipping and packing.
