MINISTRIES OF PHYSICAL PLANNING, HEALTH MEET WITH AFDB ON SUSTAINABLE HEALTH SYSTEM PROJECT

The Africa Development Bank (AFDB) and the Lagos State Ministry of Health met with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to discuss how to improve the sustainability of project preparation for health systems in Lagos State.

Physical planning, according to Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, is essential to any significant development and need to come first when it comes to project preparation.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development’s significant involvement in site selection and project site delivery demonstrated its relevance to all development projects in the State.

The Commissioner said that in addition to approving designs, the Ministry also kept an eye on construction to make sure that zoning laws, other Master Plan provisions, and physical planning standards were being followed.

Tpl. Daisi Oso, the general manager of the Lagos State Informal Sector Management Authority (LASISMA), promoted the two ministries working together to restructure economic activity in the informal sector in order to improve access to healthcare services.

Tpl. Kunle Salami, Director of the Office of Physical Planning’s Regional and Master Plan Department, discussed the applicability of the many development plan hierarchies that the Ministry has created in conjunction with stakeholders.

The purpose of the visit, according to the meeting’s facilitator, Commissioner for Health Prof. Akin Abayomi, was to investigate opportunities for closer cooperation to support the long-term viability of health systems initiatives in Lagos State.

He explained that the trip to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development was a component of other trips to the government’s relevant MDAs with the same objective.

The head of the Africa Development Bank’s team, Babatunde Omilola, expressed his happiness with the developments in Lagos State and stated that the organization’s goal was to advance economic integration and growth throughout the continent.

Copies of the Development Plans were given to the AfDB team by Commissioner Olumide, and Tpl. Bola Aliu, Director of Technical Services, thanked the visitors and suggested that the two ministries hold frequent meetings.

Directors from the Office of Physical Planning as well as Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, General Manager of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, were present.
