RUSSIA SERVICE STATION EXPLOSION CLAIMS 10 LIVES
In Dagestan, a republic in the Caucasus region of Russia, a service station was hit by an explosion on Friday September 27, 2024 that left at least ten persons dead and eleven injured, according to the emergency situations ministry.
On the social media platform Telegram, the ministry announced that two kids were among the deceased.
The initial ministry announcement did not provide a cause for the explosion; it listed five deaths and three injuries.
“The station’s building is destroyed,” it posted on Telegram.
“The technical area and the cafeteria are burning over a surface of 500 square metres.”
According to the ministry’s statement, the fire was contained but not yet put out.
It further stated that over 120 rescuers were on the scene south of Makhachkala, the capital
of Dagestan.
A service station in a Makhachkala suburb experienced an explosion and fire in August 2023, leaving 37 persons dead and 119 injured.
In Russia, aged facilities and safety standards violations are common causes of these kinds of incidents.
