In Dagestan, a republic in the Caucasus region of Russia, a service station was hit by an explosion on Friday September 27, 2024 that left at least ten persons dead and eleven injured, according to the emergency situations ministry.

On the social media platform Telegram, the ministry announced that two kids were among the deceased.

The initial ministry announcement did not provide a cause for the explosion; it listed five deaths and three injuries.

“The station’s building is destroyed,” it posted on Telegram.

“The technical area and the cafeteria are burning over a surface of 500 square metres.”

According to the ministry’s statement, the fire was contained but not yet put out.

It further stated that over 120 rescuers were on the scene south of Makhachkala, the capital
of Dagestan.
