QHSES ACADEMY HOSTS 4TH ANNUAL LEADERSHIP REBOOT SUMMIT IN LAGOS

The Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, and Sustainability (QHSES) Leadership Academy held its 4th edition of the Leadership Reboot summit, themed “Leadership Without Borders,” on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

The event, which took place at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium in the Lagos Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, attracted over 1,000 attendees, including more than 20 prominent leadership professionals.

The purpose of the summit was to inspire individuals by exploring the critical issues surrounding leadership and its broader impact on communities, the nation, and the global stage.

The topic of discuss also focused on innovation, problem-solving, and how leaders can bring about meaningful change.

The summit began with a welcome address from the Visionary of QHSES, Engr. Jamiu Badmos, setting the tone for a day filled with insightful presentations and discussions.

In her keynote address, Mrs. Olubunmi Fabamwo, Chairman of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, emphasized the pivotal role of leadership in all areas of life.

She said, “leadership is a matter of choice and a matter of understanding that leadership is important”. Leadership is at all levels, at our primary schools, secondary schools, tertiary institutions, even at our homes also, and anyone can show leadership qualities.”
I think it is up to parents like us, to ensure that we build leadership in our children.”

She cautioned against viewing leadership as a glamorous pursuit, describing it instead as a serious responsibility.

Hon. Ladi Ajomale, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Oshodi Local Government, shared insights on his political journey and his vision for leadership, shaped by his legal background and public service.

Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, Principal Consultant at Nathan Leadgate LLC, gave an engaging presentation on how individuals can become impactful leaders by creating value for those they lead.

He explained how we lead beyond ourselves because many people always focus on their selves when they lead but he thinks effective leadership is about leading beyond oneself to sharpen the experiences of people.

He also said “For us we need to raise people and leaders that are selfless and not selfish, people who add value and not just consume, people that are contributors and are not just complainers”.

In his words, “The people who complain will not do much for us today than the people who solve problems”, he continued by saying he as a request for young people to heed to “Keep your focus beyond yourselves, keep your focus on the problem you can solve, keep your focus on the things that you can add as value, keep your focus on the innovation you can bring and perhaps that will change the polity and our experiences together as a people.”

During the summit, the IRES Power Backpack, a newly launched product certified by the United Nations, was introduced through a short video presentation and also donated to a young boy who participated in the reboot. During the submit, there was another segment titled “Fireside Chat with CEOs” featured industry leaders, including Dr. Ololade Raji (Managing Director of Inovere), Mrs. Funmi Adegbola (CEO of Combined Solutions Ltd.), and Mr. Ladi Sanni (Managing Director of Starsight Energy). The CEOs shared their professional journeys and offered advice on leadership, skills acquisition, and innovation, drawing from their experiences in various sectors.

Mrs Funmi Adegbola, CEO/ Founder of SOWSHE-A said, “It is a function of every youth seeing the leader in them”.

She continued by saying for the youth today they need to see within and also external factors, that they can some level of failure too. She thinks everyone as a role to play and can all play their part in leadership at their own various levels.

She commended the good work of Engr. Jamiu Badmos and his team, saying that “Engr. Badmos is an amazing person and both him and his team should continue on what they are doing and shouldn’t stop.”

The eight-hour summit concluded with a closing address by Engr. Jamiu, who thanked the attendees for their participation and promised an even more impactful summit next year.

The QHSES Leadership Reboot summit continues to be a critical platform for fostering leadership excellence and driving meaningful change across industries and communities.
