MAN GETS 8 STROKES OF CANE FOR GOAT THEFT
On Thursday, a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court will give 21-year-old scavenger Ibrahim Usman eight canings for stealing a she-goat.
The guilty person, who admitted to committing the crime, pleaded with the judge to show pity as well as justice, saying that his friends had misled him.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, stated in his ruling that the defendant was treated kindly by the court because he acknowledged his guilt right away.
Emmanuel gave Usman eight canings and issued a warning to stop committing crimes in the future. He also mentioned that the court might not be as forgiving when he stood before him again.
Earlier, Insp. Chidi Leo, the prosecution’s attorney, informed the court that the defendant had committed the crime on October 6 in Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna.
Leo claims that the prisoner who was apprehended by the vigilante group at Ali Akilu Road in Kaduna with the goat was unable to provide a convincing account of how he obtained it.
He claimed that when the prisoner was brought to the police station to be questioned, he admitted to stealing the goat from his neighbor’s house.
According to the prosecution, the offense violated the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
