UPDATE: NO DEATHS, INJURIES IN IGANMU BUILDING COLLAPSE – LASEMA
PRELIMINARY REPORT REGARDING A COLLAPSED BUILDING AT 20, AMUSU STREET, BALE BUS STOP, SARI, ORILE IGAMNU
In response to distress calls received via the 767/112 Toll-Free Lines at 0847hrs, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated it’s Cobra Response Team from Onipanu.
INCIDENT OVERVIEW:
Upon arrival of the Agency’s Response Team at the incident scene by 0933hrs, it was observed that a two-storey residential building had self-collapsed on Monday, 14th October, 2024.
CAUSE OF INCIDENT:
Cause of the self-collapsed building was attributed to distress, as further information gathered from LASBCA at incident scene revealed that occupants of the collapsed building had been served notice to quit by LASBCA as being distressed, but some occupants remained recalcitrant
CASUALTY REPORT:
Fortunately there was no loss of lives and no injuries were sustained in the course of the building collapsing.
All occupants of the building escaped unscathed when the building gave signs of imminent collapse.
ACTION TAKEN:
Operatives of the Agency took the following actions:
-Cordoned off the site of the collapsed building.
-Coordination with stakeholders to ensure swift operation.
-Management of the incident scene for a smooth operation.
-Crowd control to ensure a smooth operation.
STATUS:
Further Assessment has been conducted at the scene on the adjoining Two (2) storey building which reveals that the building was distressed and unhabitable for occupants.
All occupants in the said building have been evacuated from the distressed building for safety reasons.
Operation ongoing.
IN ATTENDANCE:
The Agency’s officials, LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit, NEMA, Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, LASBCA, LNSC, Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Ojora Palace Chiefs, and NPF are responders present at the scene of the incident.
