MODEL COLLEGE, BADORE EMERGES WINNER OF YEAR 2024 GOVERNOR’S QUIZ COMPETITION

… As Commissioner Reiterates LASG’s Unwavering Commitment towards the Education Sector

 

The Lagos State Senior Model College, Badore, has emerged overall winner (Senior Category) of the Year 2024 Lagos State Governor’s Quiz Competition, held at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday.

 

At the Grand Finale of the Competition, Ilupeju Senior Grammar School and Eva Adelaja Senior Secondary School, Bariga, emerged second and third positions respectively in the same category.

 

In the Junior Secondary Category, Vetland Junior Grammar School clinched the first position, while Eva Adelaja Junior Secondary School and Oregun Junior High School came second and third.

For the Primary School Category, Igbehinadun Primary School, Mushin, took the first position, while Maryland Primary School and Fazi-lo-ma Primary School came second and third positions respectively.

 

Addressing participants during the Competition, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, noted that the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry, has been in the forefront of advancing quality education and raising the younger generation to become great leaders through various competitions.

 

The Commissioner emphasized that this annual competition will ultimately develop students’ skills of concentration, identify gaps in knowledge, assist them retain information and further boost their self-confidence.

 

The Commissioner, representing the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, revealed that in order to produce self-reliant youths, the State Government through the Education and Technology pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda has modelled and re-engineered the educational system to deliver graduate students who will blend with the labour market demand.

 

While acknowledging the significance of the Quiz Competition, he said “In any good educational system, knowledge is not only tested by written or summative examinations, but other means, such as quizzes, panel discussions, project works, which will further develop students for the task ahead”.

 

He further explained that towards realizing the educational objective of Lagos State, the Government has combated the challenges of the sector through innovative technology, scientifically-based approaches, effective training of the workforce and closing the learning gap in a bid for the school children to build a better and brighter future for themselves and the State.

 

Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun concluded his remarks by congratulating all participant of this year’s Competition, charging them to continue to make Lagos State proud with their excellent academic performances, stressing that the Government will not relent in ensuring the implementation of policies and programmes that are geared to instill the ideals of quality education and guarantee that no child is left behind.

 

Earlier in his welcome address, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MBSE), Mr. Abolaji Abayomi, noted that the Ministry, through its various Programmes have produced exceptional students, who have represented the State at National and International Competitions, revealing that the prestige and privileges that comes with winning the grand prize of the Lagos State Governor’s Quiz has been a great motivating factor for the students.

 

The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director, Basic Education Services, Mr. Olufemi Ashaolu, extended appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his passion, unwavering commitment and significant investment in the Education Sector, ensuring that every child benefit from the 21st century learning demands.

 

The Director, Co-Curricular Department, Mrs. Adebambo Aransiola showered encomium on the participants for the brilliance exhibited from the preliminaries to the final stage, adding that these students have been properly groomed by their Teachers’.

 

Highpoint of this year’s Competition were the presentations of Trophies and Prizes to winners of the various categories. The event also had the attendance of the Board Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Lamidi, representatives of the 6 Education Districts, Directors of the Ministry, among other top Government Officials.
