ANAMBRA: EFCC ARRESTS 36 INTERNET FRAUDSTERS
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Enugu Zonal Command agents have arrested 36 people in various parts of Onitsha, Anambra State, who are accused of engaging in online fraud.
After what the EFCC called “actionable intelligence” connected the individuals to internet criminal activity, the arrests happened on October 11, 2024.
Initial investigations found that the accused reportedly used social media personas of foreign nationals to trick gullible people, the EFCC said in a statement released through X on Thursday.
Eight opulent cars and high-end laptops and cell phones that were allegedly utilized in the fraud were among the valuables recovered during the investigation.
“Upon arrest, preliminary investigations showed that the suspects impersonated foreign nationals using social media platforms to defraud unsuspecting victims.
“Items recovered from them include eight luxury vehicles and sophisticated brands of mobile phones and laptops. The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the statement said
The EFCC further stated, “The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
