ASABA FILM INDUSTRY NEEDS GROWTH, SAYS CHIZZY ALICHI
Actress Chizzy Alichi has discussed the difficulties Asaba filmmakers have in becoming well-known.
In a recent interview with HipTV, Alichi cited inadequate funding as a significant obstacle to quality production.
According to Alichi, the main distinction between filmmakers in Asaba and Lagos is that the former prioritizes detail and props while the latter concentrates on mass manufacturing, which lowers production qualities.
Alichi further emphasized that Asaba performers are more well-known as a result of their low-budget movies, which appeal to a wider audience, including people living in lower-class neighborhoods and rural areas who might not have access to streaming services or movie theaters.
However, Alichi emphasized that because the business has advanced beyond the present norms, Asaba filmmakers must raise the caliber of their productions in order to be recognized by the general public.
“The only difference I see here is maybe in the making of the movie. Lagos tends to take their time, especially the use of props. There in Asaba, we believe in mass production as e dey hot. Nollywood is everywhere.“Most of the Asaba actors are more popular because they make the movie with a low budget. It goes to even the village women. Not everybody has time or money to come to the cinema but those epic movies—even the market women, the hawkers, the mechanics, can watch.
“The world has gone past that kind of movie; they need to step it up a bit,” she said.
