POLICE ARREST FAKE OFFICER FOR DEFRAUDING POS OPERATORS IN OGUN
A man identified as Bukola Olabode, who specialised in disguising as a police officer and making fake transfers to Point of Sale, POS operators and residents in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been arrested.
The suspect, aged 25, who dressed in a police camouflage uniform, was caught after trying to defraud a POS operator identified as Mary Midoyin.
Confirming his arrest on Friday, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that Olabode fled the scene after making a fake transfer of N60,000 to the POS operator.
Odutola noted that he was handed over to officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, by residents and later transferred to the police at the Idiroko Division.
She said: “The suspect was dressed in a police camouflage shirt, cap, and jeans when he committed the crime. Upon realising his cover had been blown, he quickly made a fake transfer to Mary Midoyin, a PoS operator, and collected N60,000 before fleeing the scene.”
According to her, the suspect on interrogation confessed to defrauding POS operators in the community.
Items recovered on him include a Samsung phone, a black Itel phone, a police constabulary warrant card and a round-neck T-shirt.
Odutola added that the suspect has been detained, and investigations are ongoing for likely prosecution.
